- You say, "Korrath I'm afraid your under arrest for loitering." (2010-07-23 23:15:00).
- You feel the oppressive weight of death gather around you, looking to drain the life energy of anything that comes near. The occasional pale ripple in the air near you tells you this effect is waiting to be discharged. (2010-07-23 23:15:09).
- You attack Korrath with a(n) Glacier Touch spell and hit for 7 points of cold damage. You gain 7 XP. He was protected by a burning aura! You take 6 points of fire damage! The pall of death around you seems to discharge, draining them of life for 6 points of death damage! (2010-07-23 23:15:19).
- Korrath riposted against your attack with their Tarnished Sword and hit for 5 points of fire damage. (2010-07-23 23:15:19).
My aura now has 3 shots left. It seems the riposte counted as a status tick.
Should that have triggered the death aura?
Is the fact it makes every attack against someone with advanced parry use two status ticks makes advanced parry too strong?
- Sihoiba attacked you with a(n) Glacier Touch spell and hit for 7 points of cold damage. The air around them seems to reek with the stench of death and you feel it assailing your very soul, draining you of vigor for 6 points of death damage! (2010-07-23 23:15:19).
- You riposte against Sihoiba with your Tarnished Sword and hit for 5 points of fire damage. He was shrouded in a palpable aura of death! You take 6 points of 6 damage! (2010-07-23 23:15:19).
There you go. It works but is a bit borked. Also about your question concerning aura against riposters being too strong: You couldn't kill me on your own now could you? And considering the character is still missing the Chitinous Armor, Caustic Weapons, Elite Attack and so on.

wait, so let me see if I understand this:
Sihoiba has an aura active; Korrath has Advanced Parry as well as an aura.
Sihoiba attacks Korrath, which triggers his aura and his riposte. Korrath's aura inflicting damage on Sihoiba triggers Sihoiba's aura to damage Korrath, but Korrath's riposte doesn't trigger Sihoiba's aura (or does it)?
Either way, this sounds like a cascade from hell: why doesn't the damage from Sihoiba's aura trigger Korrath to riposte/cause more aura damage of his own?
Taken separately, I like auras and AP. But putting them together with an attacker who has an aura of their own... that begins to look like a mess.
But then, if you make it so AP doesn't trigger aura damage, AP gets pretty damned powerful. But if AP does cause the defender to take more damage because of auras, then that really makes AP less powerful.
Since it's a "riposte," I think it would be handy to simply have AP cause the attacker to take 1/2 the damage they dealt to the defender (same damage type & everything). That makes it feel more like "turning the attack against the attacker," but not making it either too powerful or too weak. Ripostes wouldn't trigger any auras by the attacker, either. So someone with AP could leave it enabled and not worry that they were going to die from an attacker's "defensive" aura. _________________ Vile Brimstone: The Original Stone/Invisible VW

It seems pretty clear to me that if Korrath didnt have a riposte each aura would have been applied once. Skill auras (burning aura) only work defensively, spell auras work on close combat offense. The riposte is a second attack, burning aura didn't apply since Korrath was the attacker, but the spell aura did since it works for both. Which counts down 2 ticks (close combat attack, riposte defense) but also makes the aura apply twice. No auras triggering auras and no real way for this to cascade.
Actually as far as I can see, this shows a pretty decent way for spellcasters to kill someone with ripostes quickly, especially if they're with inaccurate weapons.
Sihoiba attacks Korrath, which triggers his aura and his riposte. Korrath's aura inflicting damage on Sihoiba triggers Sihoiba's aura to damage Korrath, but Korrath's riposte doesn't trigger Sihoiba's aura (or does it)?
The mistake was here it was his riposte attack not his aura that triggered the aura:
Sihoiba makes a close combat attack does damage.
Because he made a close combat attack Death Mantle activates and does damage.
However by making a close combat attack Sihoiba is exposed to Korrath's burning aura and takes damage.
Korrath then ripostes the attack, Sihoiba takes damage.
Korrath's close combat riposte triggers Sihoiba's Death Mantle Korrath takes damage.
So Sihoiba sees his attack, followed by a riposte and Death Mantle drop two ticks.
I presume if Sihoiba had been a Seraph with clock work cloud the damage on the riposte would have happened, but not the damage on the attack wouldn't.
I think there's a bug to post in this though, Sihoiba got no message his death mantle had triggered on Korrath's riposte.

ahh, ok. Thanks, dazed. I didn't realize that aura spells worked offensively, too. Now my Corruptor is even more interested in them. _________________ Vile Brimstone: The Original Stone/Invisible VW
