So I'd imagine that as a webmaster for a free site that depends on donations for its upkeep, I'd always be looking for more ways to potentially milk money out of people. Without forcing them to make 100+ alts, put a Blitzkrieg Alt on every corner and drive everyone crazy. Today, Eugene did something... typically Eugene, but for once, I think that this might have been a good thing. This discussion took place in IRC:
Quote:
<Lupin> Why am I a yellow shark holding a gun?
<H-land> Take a guess.
<H-land> Here's a hint: Eugene did it.
<Khaze> WTF A SHARK?
<Lupin> Eugene?
<Lupin> Yes
<Lupin> I'm a gun toting shark
<Lupin> specifically
<Lupin> a SMG toting shark
<Khaze> WHY AM I A SHARK
<H-land> You're SHOOTY Mc FUCKING FINN.
<Khaze> BUT I USE SWORDS
<H-land> NOT TODAY
<Lupin> Its not a permanent change at least
<Lupin> But its a shame
<Lupin> i rather like the idea of me being a shark toting a gun due to me being a gunner
<H-land> I mean, I'm usually a werewolf, ready to pounce with my teeth bared. But today, we're all sharks with guns.
<Lupin> mayhaps a chicken with a bow for the archers :D
<H-land> Lupin: Donate and see what ca- Actually.
<H-land> That's a pretty good idea, methinks.
<H-land> I'm posting this.
The idea that Eugene and Lupin wound up giving me is this: Let characters upload suitably sized images that may be used in lieu of the standard yellow bathroom-sign-person image to represent a character on a tile. It's assumed that credits would be required for this, but I'm not sure how many would be fair. It's to be assumed that only the player would see this, and not others, since I don't even see other people as yellow, so keep that in mind when pricing it.
The only downside that I can see to this is that the images might, if improperly formatted or some such, bloat the server. Suitable regulations might curb this issue, though, or so I would predict.
