A simple proposal - swap the ability Meditation from the Pariah to the Defiler, and in return give the ability Poison to the Pariah instead (as a precursor for Explosive Murder). _________________ Cheers,
Thematic - The Defiler is the magic-using thinking T2 class yet it has no means of self-healing or receiving healing from others. Defilers can be at a real disadvantage without the healing options available to other magic users. The Pariah is the feared killer and Poison as gateway to EM feels much better than Meditation; internal poison then internal combustion.
Personal - Meditation as an ability is, as discussed many times in IRC, is now ubiquitous and very useful but overlooked by most as merely a necessary gateway to something else. And there are many classes who arguably just shouldn't have it whilst IMO the Defiler should. Example: Paladins gaining Meditation in NW has changed the Shepherd raison d'etre (the healer-warrior synergy) and devalued Poison as a weapon but it seems to exist purely so that Divine Armour costs 40 CP. Similarly, for the Pariah Meditation exists to ensure that EM costs 40 CP (or 60 CP if you're being vindictive). _________________ Cheers,
I believe that swapping Poison and Meditation wouldn't really make sense from a thematic view at all... Defilers... defile everything they come across, so it would make sense for them to have a poisoning ability. Pariahs just aim to outright kill, while Defilers like to cause prolonged suffering. It also makes more sense for pariahs to have Meditation as a prerequisite to Explosive Murder, as the first skill shows a mastery over the body, while the ability to poison is somehow supposed to logically lead to explosions? It makes sense that a Pariah could heal back damage, they seem like a more "biological" class (I believe that the skill would probably be better named Regeneration, but that would confuse things).
From a gameplay standpoint, why remove such a good skill from them? Poison is one of the signature skills of the Defiler, and keeps them interesting. I don't think that Defilers need to heal as much as Pariahs do, anyway. Pariahs seem to be a very self-sufficient class, and removing Meditation from them would undermine them a bit, since they couldn't heal unless they get Blood Taste, which at least costs 40 more CP for a Pariah and does not heal poisoning. Defilers seem like a faction-oriented class that depends on others as much as others depend on them. Also, remember that the Shepherd and its Tier 3 exits also don't get self-healing, while a defiler exit does (Life Vampire for the Dark Oppressor). If defilers are able to heal themselves, then why can't Shepherds? I guess that you could call buying alchemy and crafting healing and/or regeneration potions also may count as a way to heal, too, so that is also kind of makes the argument to give defilers Meditation weaker (as Pariahs aren't going to be making potions for themselves).
