Don't have an account yet? You can create one. Registered players can create up to three free characters to battle, team up with your friends and explore the worlds of the Nexus! To create a character once you have registered, click on Game Map at the top of the page.
You are dropped in a new Valhalla, along with other players, in the middle of a clash between the 9 elder powers. You must survive starvation, thirst, fatigue, roaming monsters, the meddling of elder powers, and, of course, other players.
The mechanics:
Roll to Dodge games are designed to be mechanically simple. Here are the basics:
Each game day will be divided into 12 turns (or two hour chunks).
As this game is highly freeform, you can pretty much do whatever you want (within reason). You want to travel east until you spot something interesting? You can. You want to search through a house you spotted? Sure thing. You wanna go to the art studio and draw pretty pictures? Uhh, yeah. Go for it.
Players will submit their actions, and, at the end of the turn, I will roll to determine the results of those actions. Generally, each turn will last for a day or two, but may be shorter or longer depending on what is happening.
You may submit multiple actions, as long as they can be accomplished within two hours.
If there is an important event, I will introduce sub-turns, to allow players to react.
The rolls:
Here are the rolls, with examples for how the outcome might look of you tried to shoot a roaming zombie
[1]-failure, additional negative results (You shoot at the zombie, and the gun jams!)
[2]-failure (You shoot at the zombie, and miss!)
[3]-success, below average result (You shoot at the zombie, and graze it's shoulder!)
[4]-success, average result (You shoot at the zombie, and hit it in the chest!)
[5]-success, above average result (You shoot at the zombie, and hit it in the head! CRIT!)
[6]-success, additional results decided by a second roll (You shoot at the zombie, and keep shooting until you run out of ammo!)
[1-4]-negative consequence, gets worse the lower you roll(The zombie is dead, but the noise attracted (1/2/3/Maevel) more!)
[5]-no consequence (The zombie is dead!)
[6]-positive consequence (The zombie is dead, and your effort to remove the zombie has been noticed by the elder powers you favor!)
Obviously, some good results will be much better, and some bad results will be much, much worse, but that's the main idea.
Character creation:
This game is pretty much open to as many players as you want. Feel free to join, drop out, rejoin, or nuke your character to make a new one whenever you want, and I'll resolve any additions/subtractions in the following turn.
Name:
Gender:
Appearance: (humanoids only please <.<)
Personal Biography: (feel free to add as much, or as little as you want, but realize that the elder powers will use this information to sway you, in positive or negative ways)
Stats: You have 2 points to distribute here. This is mostly for behind the scenes mechanics, general stats, and bonuses to reaction rolls. As time goes on, these stats will increase based on your activities, so the first few points won't make much of a difference.
Strength: how much you can carry, how much damage you deal with unarmed and melee attacks, and other useful goodies
Stamina: max health, how much you can push yourself before you get fatigued, and how far you can travel per day
Dexterity: how fast you can run, your reaction speed, your accuracy with ranged attacks, and other useful goodies
Intelligence: how smart you are, and how easily you can grasp mechanical and magical aspects
Willpower: how much your mind and body can ensure before you start having negative setbacks
Skills: You have 3 points to distribute here. These will affect your starting gear, and give you a miniscule bonus at the start. All of these skills will increase in level when you use them successfully (even the ones you don't pick), so don't hurt yourself trying to decide between them.
Engineering
Repair
Hand to hand
Melee Weapons
Heavy Melee Weapons
Light Guns
Heavy Guns
Bows
Thrown weapons
First Aid
Sense Magic
Hunger, sleep, thirst, and fatigue
Unlike in nexus clash, these stats are very important to your well-being. There are three different thresholds, marked by green, yellow, and red colors. The first one has no penalties, but the other two have -1 to all rolls and -2 to all rolls, respectively. Your actions in game will determine how quickly you drop down, but on average, you only need to worry once per day (or every 12 turns).
Fatigue is its own stat, and you don't need to worry about it unless you really push yourself every single turn. You need to rest off all your fatigue before you get sleep.
Stat/skill thresholds:
So you have all these numbers all over the place? What do they actually do?
1-2, once a day, life saving rerolls
3-5, +1 to rolls from 1 to 4
6-8, once a day, guaranteed 5
9, can only roll 3, 4, or 5 (maxed out)
As the levels increase, the amount of successful uses you need to increase the skills level also increases.
Death:
I'm keeping with NC spirit, death is not the end!
Upon dying from a failed roll, you will lose one point from that skill, and possibly others. When dying from natural causes, you will also lose points from your stats!
Tier 2 and Tier 3 classes, Elder Powers, factions, NPCs and map

Name:Admiral Whiskers (or, when addressed by civilians, Miss Whiskers if you prefer)
Gender: depends on my mood. Wait, female Appearance: totally hot, except the boobs are small-ish so they don't bounce too hard/hurt when running braless.
Personal Biography: Admiral Whiskers, while not actually a cat, really likes them, and on a good day likes to borrow a few to discuss important things with. Sometimes the "cats" the Admiral borrows are actually people dressed in cat costumes, but Whiskers tends not to notice as they are almost as good at planning as cats themselves are!
She (unsurprisingly) is fond of tuna fish, but (very surprisingly) she is not the least bit interested in or distracted by laser pointers (or lasers in general).
Stats:stamina and willpower - the world's a dangerous place. One will last longer and stronger with a mind and body which can endure its hardships. Sure, dodging, outwitting, or beating up danger might work, but she's going to take her cue from turtles on this one. Them ******* can be pretty resilient.
Skills: sense magic - that's, that's what I do, right? Who knows...
melee weapons - because stabby things are more dangerous than fists, while still being simple enough to acquire and not needing ammo.
Third skill is a toss-up. Do I want to be good at making ridiculous things, or repairing ridiculous things someone else has already made? One sounds more fun, the other sounds more practical. Hm.
Well, I was leaning towards repair, but then the thought of wanting to build a trebuchet at some point crossed my mind, and of course I'd want that to happen, so I'm going to have to go with
engineering _________________ Murder Monkey
Appearance: A 7 foot tall bald man weighing 450 pounds. He sports a short black beard. He is wearing a black wrestling outfit and ankle length black boots.
Personal Biography: He's tired of being a jobber in the WWE so he's come to claim the Nexus World Heavyweight Championship!!!
Skills: +2 Strength - He's strong but he tires himself out pretty easily.
Stats: +2 hand to hand, +1 melee weapons. - He packs quite a punch, but hes well aware that a steel chair can often hit harder then a fist.
Remind me not to put anything somewhere like this without letting someone know it's going there. Tek got to this.
Anyway.
Name:Aelita Gender:female Appearance: A young woman with a short and slender dancer's build who lets her long black hair cover much of her face. He is wearing an form-fitting bodysuit, a pair of plastic vampire teeth, and a rune-inscribed ring.
Personal Biography: A domineering woman despite her small and light statue. Aelita fancies herself as a leader among her peers and an empress. She is rarely seen without her surgeon's kit and gem catalog, determined to grow in influence whether healing or exploiting supernatural energies. Being exposed to magical and psionic influences only fueled her drive to turn possibility onto its head.
The "he" mentioned earlier is and is not a mistake. She is physically female. However, her lust for power was actually answered - back in Petra, she was met with a golden pillar of flame that consumed her body utterly.
She was placed back where she stood in the next instant, and came back altered on a fundamental level, as if physics changed or forgot her.
For a time, she was able to go wherever she wanted. She could enter any protective ward, live and breathe inside the solid earth, enter the interior of what-had-no-interior, and sidestep the veils dividing planes (or even traverse them).
Of course, any fool might have exploited this power and pretended it to be an accident, or 'permitted'. She wisely surrendered this power, limiting herself again (and stopping a universal crisis), but the mark of Paradox remains on her body even in her new life in Laurentia. It will follow her even beyond.
This creature has seen that, yes, the chaos of dreams holds truth and sway. She seeks to grow and reach for the outer edges of the universe, and of possibility. She will not stop until that-thought-mad is physically possible and viable. This woman will taste the color blue. This woman will slam a revolving door. This woman will tilt the cartridge just to see what happens. And then she might even fix it back. Who knows. It might be altered forever.
This woman will delete an atom if she can get away with it. If you threaten her, you are volunteering yours.
Stats:Intelligence and Willpower - She might not just be insane. Might.
Brain power is might.
Skills: Sense Magic +1 It's all a matter of knowing where to look. Or perhaps digging it out of the psychic impulses the brain naturally generates. Not necessarily her brain.
First Aid +1 She is first and foremost a surgeon. Until she is better able to fight on her own, she is content to heal others in exchange for comforts like food or protection. A previous companion of hers might have referred to the concept as a "hard carry".
First Aid +1 It was a hard decision between this, two Sense Magic, or 3 of something. Except, the topic tells us that it's not that big a deal. Well, we get three points, so why not go for more First Aid. Matches what she did in both Breaths, getting Surgery. Just that in time the surgery will be at a distance. Got stuff to delete. _________________ "Everybody is a genius. But if you judge a fish by its ability to climb a tree, it will live its whole life believing that it is stupid." Albert Einstein

We have a couple people, so I'll probably start the game tomorrow.
All characters are accepted.
Pika, those three are all possible (Heavy Melee is more the sledgehammer/signpost kinda thing) _________________ - Officer Horwood frowns. "A fallen angel and a redeemed demon. This looks like the start of a bad joke."
Appearance: The young woman appears to be in her teens, with waist long brown hair tied into pigtails that fall onto her chest. She wears a khaki army hat, a dark green sleeveless button up crop top, a gray crop top, olive green khaki short-shorts, gold hoop earrings, black fingerless gloves, a brown belt with an oval buckle, two holsters tied to her thighs, grey socks, Lace-up black combat boots.
Personal Biography: The young woman was living in France, living happily with her parents. One day, while she was reading a book and relaxing to some music, a loud explosion knocked her to the floor. She was awake for a few more seconds before the book case next to her gave away and fell on top of her. As she woke up, though, she saw only blackness around her. "What? What's happening?" She said, over, and over, but nothing came. Her body stretched, and the pain she felt was unbearable. As she opened her eyes for the second time, she saw that she was in some kind of garden. She pushed the rubble off of her body and stood up from the ground. She was no longer in France. She wasn't sure if she was even in.. "earth" anymore. She walked gingerly from the cobblestone path, and that's when her adventure began.
Stats: Stamina and Dexterity After spending some time in the Nexus, she has learned how to shoot from spending time at Wozzy's shooting range.
Skills: Light Guns, Heavy Guns, and Hand To Hand. The young woman has trained heavily and is no stranger to any type of weapon. She knows how to handle heavy guns and light guns, even knows how to throw a punch, but her short stature tells her that even though she knows how to fight with her hands, other things such as fighting with heavy weapons won't be such a good thing for her.
Turn 0
The battle on Valhalla has been raging for years, and many factions have risen and fallen in that time. Every day, multiple new souls enter the nexus, and join the battle. Our story begins at the beginning of a new day, with these new combatants.
Mika
You wake up in a large forest. Wait...why are all the trees made of concrete? As your eyes adjust, you realize you are actually in the middle of a deserted city.
As you stand up, you feel something severely weighing you down. Reaching towards a holster, you see (6->2(ouch)) a hilariously oversized handgun. Whoever made this was not being realistic, as it is nearly impossible to aim with (-3 dex when using). On the other side, you have (4) a generic pistol.
As you search your pack you find ammo for both guns, a (5) gun maintenance crate, complete with the ability to convert ammo between calibers, (4) 5 rations of food and water, and a tinderbox.
(City street) you can't get a good look at the environment around you, but you do see (5) a bulletin board with a Neon light over it that says "Directory!" Why guess where to find something, when you can just look up exactly where it is!

You wake up to the sound of waves crashing against a shore. You can smell the ocean, and notice you are on a beach. As you start to stand up, your foot hits metal. To your surprise, you find a (6->4) sledgehammer! What is it doing here? Trying to pick it up, you see it is much heavier than it looks (-1 strength when using). Either way, it is a useful alternative to your (4) mundane sword.
Looking into your pack, you see it is rather...empty. (1) there is nothing here for you to use your engineering knowledge with, and (2) only a single ration of food and water.
Oh well, at least you can see what is around you...(2) or at least you would if it wasn't for the huge sand dune between you and the rest of the land. Hey, at least it isn't a cliff, but it will still be a struggle trying to get over it. Maybe it will provide a decent vantage point.

You wake up on the outskirts of a city. As you feel around, your hands grip two bows. The first one (2) looks to be badly damaged. It might work with a bit of tender loving care, but you won't know until you try it. The second one (6->6 (you lucky SOB), is in much better shape. The craftsman ship of this compound bow is exquisite, and pulling on it seems nearly effortless (+1 strength when used).
Looking into your pack, you find (2) a box of bandaids, and (2) a single ration of food and water.
There are several small buildings around you, and they are low enough to get a clear view of your surroundings. To the north, you see a blanket of ice and snow, and to your east, you see a range of mountains. The city dominates your view of the south and west. (4) One of the buildings next to you looks to be an old supermarket. Perhaps there is something left in there?

You wake up to the wind blowing in your hair. You are in a grassland. You hear the soft humm of magic, (5 (so glad someone rolled a crit for this)) and it seems to be all around you. You first look at a scroll, and see glowing glyphs that you can vaguely recognize. You realize that you can read the scroll to learn (a spell of your choice (though I will roll to see how good it actually is, muahaha)). As you look around, you hear...whispering. There must be a shrine nearby. You can only guess who's it might be, and hope that you are right (Try calling out to one of the 9 elder powers, and see).
You look into your pack, and see (5) a magnificent (sword-like melee weapon of your choice) sticking out of it. It is warm to the touch, as though it has some magical properties. You look into your pack, and find (5) a portable toolkit and the schematics to something (generator, house, trebuchet!? Pick something and I will roll to see what it is). Unfortunately, (2) you only have a single ration of food and water.
Looking around (2) you see a vast emptiness all around you. You can barely make out some bright lights to the west.

You growl as you wake up, your head thumping, as though you had just been smacked with a chair. You hear some frogs croaking in the lake next to you. As you get up, you spot (5) a set of spiked knuckles on your fists. These will be great for when you use your haymaker on all the other puny mortals. You also (6->2) vaguely remember a wrestling move you used to do (your choice). The only downside was that it was mostly for show, and trying to do it for real will hurt you as well (-6 health when used). You also find (3) the broken remains of what obviously caused you to get knocked out, a (pick an improvised weapon (it's gonna be a chair...isn't it?)). Perhaps you can salvage it.
In your pack, you find (4) 5 rations of food and water, and a tinderbox. Sweet!
As you look around (6(muahaha)) you hear voices. It seems you stumbled upon a faction, and they know there is someone out here. You can try to guess what their alignment is, but you won't know until you tell them what you are. You almost don't notice a wide mountain range to the west, a giant forest to the north, and a marshland to the south.

You wake extremely uncomfortable. Everything hurts, and you feel like you were sleeping on a rock. You aren't surprised to find you are on a mountain. You notice (2) something that doesn't look like a normal rock. It turns out to be a spellgem, but it doesn't have any charges. Perhaps it can be charged in the future.
You look into your pack, and (5+4) it is filled to the brim with First aid kits (x6). You also find a surgeon's kit, and (3) three rations of food and water.
(mountain vantage point) You have a clear view of the world around you. Going clockwise from the northeast, you see a dense forest, a large lake, a swamp, dunes that lead to an ocean, a desert, a bright city, a land of ice and snow, and a giant mountain.

You wake up to the sound of growling (yeah, you rolled a couple 1's, as nice as I am, I can't let it slide). A quick look around shows you are in a grassland, (1) surrounded by fog (1) and a wild dog with what was left of your rations in its mouth! It's still hungry, and lunges at you.
(Life saving dex roll->5 (good job!)) you deftly roll out of it's way, and find (6->5) an oversized sniper rifle. Despite its size, it seems to be perfectly balanced. Before it notices where you rolled off to, you fire a round into its head, killing it!
You look around to see what is left inside the pack. You see (2) a broken rifle, and (2) some ammo for it. Perhaps with some tender loving care, it can be useful.
Looking around, there is no way you can possibly see anything through this fog. Your only hope is to wait it out, or head in one direction and hope you don't end up walking in circles.

As you walk outside of the garden, you hear the sounds of a river. You spot some weapons and a backpack set up nicely for you. (5) the pistol has plenty of ammo, and seems warm to the touch, as though it was touched by magic. You also have (3) a rifle, with enough ammo for two magazines. In the pack, you also find 3 rations of food and water.
You vaguely remember something from your past (6->4). (choose a fighting style or hand to hand attack of your choice, and I will give it a minor penalty to something).
To the west you spot a lake, the source of this river water, and to the north, east, and south, ocean. (2) You realize you are in the middle of a river, surrounded on all sides by water that you simply can't determine the depth of. It seems you may have to swim.

Detailed character sheets, including damage and ammo values of weapons, will be added on. I wanted to get the main parts out,
Would you like for me to white out the text, so that it can somewhat be protected by spoilers?
Also. Secret actions are allowed. You can PM them to me.
Let me know if I made a mistake somewhere,
Some rule changes
When you roll a 6, you get a second d6 roll
1-4, negative consequence, increasing in severity the lower it goes
5, no consequence, result is equal to or greater than an epic success
6, positive concequence, greater than an epic success.
This second roll is not effected by stats or skills.
All characters have an innate punch and kick attack. These have a base of 2/3 damage, respectfully, and will have a -1 to dice rolls until you have at least 1 point in hand to hand.
Dedicated hand to hand characters will learn new attacks that allow them to disarm opponents, deal more damage, or counterattack, depending on how these go. _________________ - Officer Horwood frowns. "A fallen angel and a redeemed demon. This looks like the start of a bad joke."
