Inspider by the Let's Play Civ thread, I fired up civ4 as well, and remembered that there's this insanely awesome mod that basically turns it into a new game.

http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=171398

If someone wants to actually play online with me some time, shoot me a pm.

For now, I'll just rip off other people's ideas. We'll settle for starting a new game. I will play a few turns and let you guys make the decisions.

The map will be large, and most likely be divided by a river, split up into small valleys that are connected through bottlenecks (the mod-specific random map is really nice).

First question, though:

Shall we be:
EVIL:
Balseraphs - Insane carnival
Calabim - Immortal Vampires
Clan of Embers - Barbaric Beastmen
Doviello - Kinda nord barbarians or something
Illians - Cult trying to promote their leader into a god
Svaltarfar - stealthy and cunning Dark Elves
Sheaim - Collection of evil cultists, bend on bringing on the apocalypse and demons

Neutral:
Amurites - mage-centric civilization
Grigori - Godless atheists and adventurers
Hippus - Mercenary Horselords
Khazad - Greedy Dwarves with warmachines
Lanun - Pirates and seamen
Ljosalfar - Woodelves with treehouses
Sidar - Immortal race of detached observers

Good:
Bannor - Paladinlike Crusaders
Elohim - Peaceful Caretakers
Kuriotates - Legendary Centaurs with only few cities
Luchuirp - Golem-making dwarves
Malakim - Adaptive nomads from desert

You can also suggest a name for our leader, as well as wether we should focus on religion, magic, military, or expansion. (might have an effect on our leader's skills). Also, I'll open the options up a bit when we get into the game.

Balseraphs it is.

Our leader is insane, charismatic (+1 happiness), creative (+2 culture) and arcane (better mages).

What should we researcH?
Options are:
Calendar (required for fesitvals! Yay!)
Animal Husbandry
Fishing
Hunting
Cartography
Crafting
Ancient Chants (Required for education and mysticism)

You can also make other suggestions regarding things we should do. Like, exploring the graveyard!

We also need to decide what we will build:
Worker
Scout,
Warrior
Palisade
Herbalist (20 turns)
Granary (27 turns)
(Settler, 25 turns)
Loki (our hero, 40 turns. I wouldn't recommend just yet)

Also, we've set up upon a cornfield.

(You might notice that I've chosen worker and ancient chants, but that's only because I need to choose something. I'll switch them acording to suggestions).

I really like the idea of Ancient Chants so we can get into the magicky stuff, but I guess some of that might be better held off till later. Obviously we need a Calendar as soon as possible so we can get right on instituting no pants Tuesday.

Also a Worker so we can make our surrounding area less crap.

I might as well put it out there that I have no idea what I'm doing or suggesting, or what actual benefits are gained from any of those research options. Heck, I'm barely even sure what resources appear to be near us.

This will likely be a short game if I continue to be the only one posting. Razz

Worker and Chants
Chants leads to Education which we can then use to decipher how best to teach the new youths on "How to be insane"
Worker makes the land prettier. We want prettier land.

I did play Civ a bit, but I have no idea what this mod changes.

I've played Civ extensively, but not this mod. I'd say animal husbandry for the sheep south of us, but I don't know what calendar does here, so let's do Calendar

Worker, obviously. and move on that goody hut, pronto.

Worker and calender, and then RAID THAT GRAVEYARD (Graveyards are a type of area you can raid, right?)

It'll probably end in horrible, painful FUN, but that's what LPs are all about, right?

I love how Calendar is winning based partly on us not knowing what it does.

Chants and workers it is.

The warriors gathered some gold from the goodie hut, while the scouts... Scouted around abit, as you can see from the map.

Our worker got ready, and our warriors made it back to the city to defend it. Since scouts are better at scouting, they will rob the graves in a few turns.

It was a close call between Ancient Chants and Calendar, but I picked Chants because they would be ready at the same time with our worker.

What should we research?
Options are:
Calendar (required for fesitvals! Yay!) -> Two votes already
Animal Husbandry
Fishing
Hunting
Cartography
Crafting
Mysticism -> Leads to Knowledge of the Ether and Philosophy
Education -> Cottages and more money. Also leads to writing and Code of Laws

We also need to decide what we will build:
Worker
Scout, (for scouting, obviously)
Warrior (For defending the city. Creepy crawlers could come out of the graveyard!!!)
Palisade
Monument (more culture!)
Herbalist (20 turns)
Granary (27 turns)
(Settler, 25 turns)
Loki (our hero, 40 turns. I wouldn't recommend just yet)

Calendar won't provide anything for us (yet) but leads to festivals, which produce FREAKS, a unique melee unit for us. They are mutated, twisted, and can construct Freak shows. I picked Calendar and a scout, but we can change those around if you want to?

We are also very nicely at the left edge of the map, so we're safe from that direction. I warn you, the wilderness and barbarians will be pretty active and aggressive around turn 25.

For those interested in the mod, this... Basically changes just about everything except the very core mechanics. I can give you a link to the guide through a PM if you ask for it, but I won't post the link here since it's funnier when people are confused. Confusion -> Chaos -> Fun.

My vote remains on Calendar.

We can hold off on Warriors till we can make Freaks, I think. The Palisade seems like the biggest waste of our time I can see, so lets go with that.

Also, I chose chants over calendar because we'll want mages at some point. Likely. They can actually cast stuff like buffs, debuffs, summons, and fireballs. And dominate enemy units. Fun times!

So, Calendar for next, any other opinions besides granary and palisade? I'd go for granary between those two.

Whilst playing Civ IV, I have learned one thing: When in doubt, cottage. In fact, just put cottages everywhere. Even in the ocean, if at all possible.

Didn't have time to play today, but tomorrow we will continue, and the choices are Granary and Calendar, unless anyone has better ideas.
