Suggestion: Whenever a character with an innate aura is attacked, the user of the aura gains XP equal to 1/2 of the damage the aura dealt, rounded up.

This will allow classes that have normally poor damage capacity (compared to glass cannons) to keep up slightly better concerning leveling. This suggestion is primarily targeted at classes that favor have less powerful offensive options: Advocates, Infernal Behemoths, Wyrm Masters, Liches, and Seraphs.

The XP drop from pets will still apply, which means pets will give very small but possibly non-zero amounts, depending on the strength of the aura. Pets will also give XP on a kill via an aura.

Innates only and I would be on-board.

Wait, I can already hear the cries, "Oh no, Advocates, Liches, WMs, IBs and Seraphs might actually get some XP, and passively!"

I'd be fine with that too. Also I forgot WMs, added!

Agreed with innate auras. Though what happens if they are immune to aura? no exp or 1?

Not so sure about Petmasters, because they're supposed to be already getting XP from pets. But if that is still 'rounded down' to 0XP per attack, I support the "only innates" notion.

I'd support this for all innate auras. It would be one way to grant small amount of XP for those who invest heavily in defensive abilities. And yes, apply it to the WM, Lich and Advocate, not just to the combat classes.

Having said that, this needs something to help Eternal Soldier Wink

Assuming an unarmoured T3 attacking them:

Advocates, Liches and IBs would get 3/3.5xp for close attacks at the cost of 30cp, 60cp and 90cp respectively.

WMs would get 4/4.5xp every time they are attacked with certain weapons for free.

Seraphs would get 2/2.5xp from every close attack for free and 2/2.5xp after a 60cp investment from any sort of attack.

These numbers don't seem game breaking to me and lets be honest here these arn't the classes scoring ridiculous amounts of XP daily

Thats for other classes...

No. WM would get XP only when they are damaged by specific weapon types. Others would get XP when attacked by close combat, hit or miss. Seraphs with Electric Aura would get XP when attacked by any weapon.

Thus completely justifying their higher than others XP return as they would have to receive damage to be awarded such goodies.

Does this account for revs biting them?

Perhaps 1 XP when you successfully Dodge an attack (not innate miss chance)?

That would be ~6-9 level based damage from the aura doubled into 12-18dmg for the Rev. So the WM might receive 6-9xp. Thats a good day for the WM! Except for the fact that something is biting it...

That would seem like a sensible thing for the ES/Dodge Tank to get if the others are being rewarded in this way. However, it should only account for attacks by T3s (pets are moot) and only be activated by their dodge skill WoW. Although, I'd like to first see a dodgy ES post a raid log to see how much exp they would theoretically get and adjust accordingly

Can anyone explain to me why people are so fearful of granting experience points when this game is such a slog to go through?

OP edited after considering discussion. Innate auras only seems to be the ticket.

Aww, disagree!

Spell auras have a fairly short duration. The total max xp yield per MP for a caster with death mantle and four other death spells is exactly equivalent to the xp yield for a number of necrotic rays that caster could cast with the same MP. Lower, if soak is an issue. They wouldn't be substantially better than other spells for getting xp (except for the "pets don't trigger status ticks" thing, which ought to be fixed for a number of reasons), and they take more work than innate auras, and are a CP investment in their own right- so why not show love for spell auras?
